    About the role

GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, enabling organizations to increase developer productivity, improve operational efficiency, and reduce security risk. More than 50 million registered users and over 50% of the Fortune 100 trust GitLab to ship secure software faster. Our high-performance culture is driven by our values and continuous knowledge exchange.

As a Technical Program Manager on GitLab's all-remote R&D PMO team, you will own complex, end-to-end programs central to the AI-powered DevSecOps strategy. You will drive high-priority initiatives across product, engineering, data, and security teams, transforming strategic vision into executable plans for capabilities like the GitLab Duo Agent Platform.

The Technical Program Management team drives R&D initiatives across the platform, including AI capabilities and strategic technology transformations. Joining this growing, distributed team requires excellence in asynchronous communication to coordinate across time zones while partnering with executive leaders.

    What you'll do

    • Lead end-to-end technical programs from initial scope through launch and continuous improvement
    • Collaborate with executive leaders to translate strategic vision into actionable roadmaps
    • Coordinate distributed teams across time zones using strong asynchronous communication
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive program plans while identifying and mitigating risks
    • Partner with customer success and cross-functional teams to refine communication plans and workflows
    • Champion GitLab's values and foster collaborative excellence and innovation
    • Lead strategic programs independently, driving predictable execution and thoughtful tradeoffs

    What they're looking for

    • Proven experience leading technical program initiatives in product, engineering, data, or security environments
    • Demonstrated ability to define strategy and create clarity within extreme ambiguity
    • Strong background in SaaS, cloud infrastructure, or DevOps technology companies
    • Experience influencing and driving impact at a division and company-wide scale
    • Excellence in cross-functional leadership with senior and C-level stakeholders
    • Outstanding asynchronous communication and executive reporting skills
    • Proven track record of redefining organizational operations and resolving complex challenges
    • Experience leading complex reliability programs across multiple engineering organizations

    Nice to have

    • Experience with AI/ML initiatives
    • Background in consulting, enterprise technology, or technical leadership roles

The hot takeJeff's read on Gitlab

GitLab has put more effort into their employee marketing and policies than 99.99% of the companies we've researched over the years. Seriously, their handbook is absolutely massive.

The ONLY thing that throws me off about them is an unclear statement about their stance on what "work from anywhere" actually means. They say:

"All-remote means that each individual in an organization is empowered to work and live where they are most fulfilled."

But they also say that hey need to have an entity in your home country in order to be hired, so I'd love to know if they have a list of the countries they will hire from.
