I swear, every time I open up Google News I see some doom-and-gloom article about "the end of remote work" and "XYZ (enormous company) just implemented a mandatory return to office.

Turns out, this is mostly just noise. And the biggest companies make the most noise.

The truth is that we're in a new normal, according to the US Census Bureau. That means remote work is permanently part of work arrangements moving forward. It SEEMS that remote work is dying because headline after headline feature giant tech and finance enterprises returning to the office (for reasons that are almost always value-based).

So there ya go, remote work isn't going anywhere. And...we have a database of 300+ companies that let you work from ANYWHERE. They're out there.

And now, for the remote jobs of the week, and featuring 2 new companies to me and you, let's goooooo...

    Hand-reviewed

The remote jobs of the week 👇

    Tilt (formerly Empower)

    New Featured Company Alert 🔥

    🔎 What they do

At Empower (now Tilt) it's more than just a job; it's diving into a culture pulsating with vibes of setting ambitious goals, owning decisions, and embracing spirited debates filled with diverse views. Respect is key, where every voice matters, knitting strong team bonds and crafting a win-win atmosphere. Their collective mission? Democratize fair credit access, empowering everyone to boost their financial well-being and freedom.

    🌶️ Hot take

Oooooh there is so much here that I like! For starters, we have a 4.1 Glassdoor score with 100+ reviews - a great starting point. They have a solid remote work policy, and a lot of language and perks that I look for in a company, including the following, which warms my heart:

"Low meeting culture. Give us the data-driven recommendation on Slack over the meeting and multi slide deck."

    And how about this beauty?

🏥 Medical coverage: "Full health coverage. Find flexible plans at every premium level, and substantial subsidies that stand up to global standards."

🏝️ Paid Retreats: "Paid global onsites. Magic happens IRL: we gather twice a year to reconnect over a shared meal or a kayaking adventure."

🔌 Tech stipend: "Home office subsidy. You're funded to get the gear you need to do your best work."

⏰ Async work style: "We work in teams, but we work asynchronously. You know what you need to do and when it needs to be done."

    Mailerlite

    IT Services · 101-1,000 · Est. 2010 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

MailerLite was born in 2010 to give businesses a simple yet powerful email solution to help them grow. They're a team of over 130 designers, developers, writers, speakers, photographers, surfers, chess players, world travelers, dreamers, and genuinely lovely people.

    🌶️ Hot take

MailerLite has downloaded my brain, extracted everything I know about creating a perfect careers page that emphasizes taking an employee-first approach, and published it. Seriously, everything is perfect. Oh, and of course they have an employee map, which really fires me up.

I recommend that every company publishes the perks and benefits they offer employees - MailerLite has published an entire page dedicated to their P&Bs. You're over-delivering, big time. There are so many great policies in here that I want to share, but honestly I would have to copy/paste the entire page. Here's a few highlights I like:

⏰ Async work style: So that you don't waste your life in meetings.

💪🏽 Flexible hours: So that you can have a solid work/life balance and optimize your productivity hours.

🏥 International health insurance - something I rarely see with international hiring.

🏝️ 31 vacation days and 4 creative days, which is better than unlimited PTO because you're more likely to take them.

😍 Annual joy budget to spend on whatever brings you joy starting at $1000 and increasing over time. (I would buy pickleball paddles).

✈️ Dream vacay budget. Celebrate your 5th anniversary with a $5,000 paid trip and your 10th anniversary with a $10,000 trip. WHAT?! This exists?

👶🏾 Parental days. Not "leave", literal days to spend quality time with your children.

And if that wasn't enough, they also sponsor a yearly retreat.

"Once a year, we meet in different locations for a “work-together.” We’ve traveled to dozens of amazing places including Sweden, Italy, Mexico, Colombia, and Panama to name a few."

This may be the perfect place to work.

From idea to execution Outliant offers technical, end-to-end services. Their solution-driven team goes above and beyond to ensure you get the value you need to help you grow digitally.

    🌶️ Hot take

Outliant is another one of my highest recommended companies to work for. Here's a line from them that I really love:

Everyone deserves a workplace built on dignity and respect. At Outliant, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where every individual is valued, empowering our team to reach their full potential and achieve collective success.

I also love that they created YouTube Shorts with their employees discussing life at Outliant:

Note that many roles have hiring location eligibility. In other words, they are looking for employees who are citizens of specific areas. They are still "work from anywhere", but hiring eligibility is limited.

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Railsware is a product studio specializing in its own products and consultancy services. Their products, Mailtrap, Coupler.io, and Jira Smart Checklist, started as internal tools, gained community recognition, and evolved into successful commercial products with millions of users and future expansions.

    🌶️ Hot take

I'm a sucker for a public-facing employee handbook, and Railsware has an absolute doozy. And for the love of god can companies start telling me WHY I should be applying to work for you? Sell yourself, please! Here's some good reasons from Railsware:

🔌 Tech stipend: "When joining the team, we would ask you to use our secure hardware only. No worries, it’s going to be great new items, you can choose yourself."

💪 Health and wellness: "Good health is a key element of an active lifestyle. Railsware helps you maintain it with an extra budget you can spend on what is best for your health at the moment. Be it a meditation app subscription, gym membership, or a yoga mat – all included."

📚 Learning budget: "At Railsware, we don’t tell you how or what to learn. You get a dedicated sum that you can use to participate in conferences, visit workshops or take courses of your choice."

⏰ Flexible hours: "Railswarians live in more than 25 countries with different time zones. All of them are free to choose their most productive work time and place."

Oh and can I get a big amen for this? I was once named "Jeff do-I-have-to-join-this-meeting Baker" by a coworker...

    Superside

    Design Services · 101-1,000 · Est. 2015 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Superside is the go-to AI-powered creative service. It's like having an extension of your in-house team, delivering lightning-fast, scalable, top-notch design and creative solutions. They've worked with over 450 globally renowned companies like Amazon, Meta, Salesforce, and Shopify since 2015. The secret sauce? They combine the top 1% of creatives worldwide with generative AI, giving them the power to offer on-demand creative services perfectly tailored to the needs of enterprise businesses and emerging industry leaders.

    🌶️ Hot take

If I see another company that has more than 90% of its career page content that talks about the company mission rather than prospective employees, I'm flat out dropping them from our database. Listen, do THIS:

Why does that work? Because they are prioritizing outcomes rather than worthless things like location, looking "busy", and keeping employees happy. Say it with me: Offices don't generate more revenue, it makes old schoolers happy because they have no idea how a business is meant to operate.

    Gitlab

    IT Services · 1,000+ · Est. 2014 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

GitLab is changing the game for Development, Security, and Ops teams with its all-in-one DevOps platform. It's all about revolutionizing collaboration, accelerating cycle time, cutting costs, speeding up time to market, and boosting developer efficiency.

    🌶️ Hot take

GitLab has put more effort into their employee marketing and policies than 99.99% of the companies we've researched over the years. Seriously, their handbook is absolutely massive.

Here's one of my favorite quotes about how they (accurately) think of the way productivity actually looks for a knowledge worker:

"A non-linear workday means that you can move between work and non-work time on an asynchronous schedule - without needing to account for PTO (paid-time-off). For example, a remote worker may start their day at 6:00 am and work till 9:00 am local time. To spend time with family, this person will not check work email or resume working again until 3:00 pm local time and continues to work until 8:00 pm local time. And tomorrow may be a totally different schedule depending on work/life circumstances."

And my favorite policy on the website speaks to their stance on working remotely:

"Working remotely enables a tremendous amount of freedom, enabling team members to work from anywhere so long as there is a reliable internet connection."

I LOVE Loom, both as a place to work and as a super helpful async tool. Anyone who reads my stuff knows that I cannot stand meetings. 90% of meetings probably don't need to happen, only benefit the loudest person of the room, and eat into productivity time. TigerData (creators of TimescaleDB)

    🌶️ Hot take

Most of Timescale's careers page covers the boilerplate, standard information: D&I statement, what the company does and their vision, their statement on remote work, company values and job listings. They have an excellent Glassdoor rating, so I would love to see some more personality coming out of this page and through their job listings. I'd also like to see a bit more information about their policy on working from anywhere (rather than simply fully-remote).

Here's a few things I like from their job listings and careers page:

    😎 Flexible hours

    📚 Education benefits

    📈 Stock options

    🔎 What they do

Timescale (TigerData) is tackling one of the biggest challenges (and opportunities) in databases for the foreseeable future: helping developers, businesses, and society make sense of the vast amounts of data generated by humans and their machines. TimescaleDB stands out as the only open-source time-series database that natively supports full SQL. It combines the power, reliability, and user-friendliness of a relational database with the scalability often found in NoSQL systems.

    📊 AtlasScore©

Timescale gets a 77% on the Anywhere Atlas, putting them in the top 33% of all remote companies.

    🏝️ Remote work policies

Fully-remote, but lacks clarity on WFA and travel policies. Company policy: "100% remote. We have people from all over the world with diverse backgrounds contributing to our fun-loving culture."

    🔎 What they do

Invisible io excels at deconstructing large, intricate business processes into smaller components, and optimizing AI and human collaboration for improved results.

    🌶️ Hot take

Invisible's Glassdoor reviews are hovering around 3.5, which raises a bit of a yellow flag for me. Again, take GD reviews with a grain of salt, and simply an indicator.

Here's a few things I DO like quite a bit. Check out their statement about autonomy and productivity on this page. Here's a few of their beliefs I align with:

👩💻 On productivity: "We believe work isn’t about where you are or how many hours you log. It’s about what you accomplish."

🏝️ On PTO: "Time off when you need it. No red tape. We care about outcomes, not optics."

😎 On flexible hours: "Flexible work hours. Your hours are yours. What matters is the result, not when you open your laptop."

    📊 BeachScore

Invisible gets a 76% on the Anywhere Atlas putting it in the top 20% of work-from-anywhere companies.
