    What's going on here??!

I am constantly looking for new fully remote companies to add to our Beach Commute Atlas database.

So I figured...I'd share the actual review process with you AS I find the companies and jobs they are hiring for.

A look under the hood, if you will.

    And with that, let's start...

    Introducing MixRank

    Oh. My. God.

I’m in full nerdcore right now over this company I just finished reviewing this morning, Mixrank.

Oh, just a sneaky 91% BeachScore putting them in the top 5% of all companies.

    NBD.

Check 'em out on the Atlas.
Check 'em out on the Atlas.

They represent EVERYTHING I incessantly preach about leadership and management.

Where do I even start…Alright collecting my thoughts as I type...

(Oh, and none of these companies pay me for this, so I'm not blowing hot air!)

Here we go, let’s let it rip.

🤌 Ego check at the door

Here’s where 90% of companies go wrong…they start with MEEEEEEEE…

“Here’s what WE are about.” And “Here’s what WE expect from you.”

Here’s the problem: WE DON’T EVEN KNOW YOU YET.

We haven’t even knocked on the door yet, sir/ma'am!

You’re a terrible host, and we're scared. Offer us a drink, will ya?

What companies should be doing, that they NEVER do…is to explain why you should want to work there!

    Mixrank opens with this line:

"We want you to be happy while you work, where you work"

    groundbreaking

I say this, then companies then tell me “Well, we need potential employees to know that they may wear many hats so that we get better applicants!”

    No…no. Wrong.

You just scared off good candidates because you’re micromanaging them before hiring them.

    (That’s what interviewing is for.)

Mixrank uses that space to talk about how much pride they have in taking care of their employees. Then they talk about stuff they want to give you:

Also, paid Netflix is absolutely a first in my book, and I have no category for that type of perk.

🌍 Founded remote is better than "remote cause we had to"

Here’s what they say in one of their job listings (I read them all 🤓)

“Remote-first culture: We've been remote since 2011 (not a COVID experiment)”

That’s a WAY bigger deal than you think.

It’s not just about “working remote”, it’s way deeper than that.

Companies that were founded remote have a completely different set of values…

📊 They believe in output over hours.

⏰ They believe in flexibility of hours and time.

💪🏽 They understand that freedom and trust has proven to translate to better business performance.

And they are STRUCTURED as an entire business model around remote work!

They didn’t try to force it out of necessity. Typically...

They have solid systems for measuring employee results and recognizing them.

(So that means the loudest person in the meeting doesn’t get all the credit.)

They know how to manage remote teams effectively using asynchronous tools and flexible schedules.

They trust their employees to be autonomous (they are less likely to micromanage).

In other words, they treat their team like professional adults, rather than children.

    🏝️ Remote work policy

Pretty clear as day: “Work remotely, anywhere in the world”

You will find most roles require certain working hour overlap. This is normal, and fair. If you wanna go live in Bali, you might have to work weird hours.

    Welcome to tradeoffs.

*You may find roles where they want someone geographically located, but they are clearly labeled.

And you’ll CERTAINLY not find employee monitoring software installed on their computers.

😎 No “fast-paced work environment” here!

    If your read these things...run!

“We work hard and play hard!”
“We don’t limit ourselves to 40 hour work weeks!”

In other words, they’re gonna work you into the ground, and use social guilt to keep you doing it until you burn out.

    Puke.

Not Mixrank! Check out this brutally honest quote I found on one of their job listings:

“We're not a rocketship nor are we building things at hyperscale. Our focus is on making sure we're doing what's best by our customers, investors, and employees, while building a long-lasting business that teammates that join us would consider investing their life's work into.”

    Wow, that’s refreshing.

Check out this quote from another listing:

“Some of the best people at MixRank joined when they were just getting started. A few years in, they're running large chunks of the business. We hire for attitude and potential, and we give people real responsibility early.”

I have a crush, and her name is Mixrank.

👀 What should you watch out for?

You'll likely have to work during specific time zones. There are two roles in there that requires the employee to be working remote based in a specific location, but they are clearly labeled, so you won't miss them.

💼 What roles do I currently like?

There are currently four jobs that let you work from anywere (below):

    Customer Success Manager

    Digital Marketing

    Jr Software Engineer

    Sofware Engineer

Don't see a role that works for you? Don't come at me, just book the site and revisit it often. Use this time to build a relationship with the company!
