Ohhhhhh the job market, the job market, the job market.

    Air it out everyone...

Fake job posts. No responses. "Remote jobs" that aren't' actually remote. AI filtering out your job applications. Remote job boards reposting the same listings 20x over.

I hear ya 100%. The deck is stacked.

The best I can do is give you a few tricks every week that I know can even the odds.

🤖 This week's trick - beating application AI filters

We already have a pejorative term for AI: "Clankers." When you apply for a job on a job board, you're going up against Clankers, and you don't know the rules of the game. As a matter of fact, 90% of all job applications never reach a human.

Here's a few simple tricks that make a massive difference 👇

    1. You shouldn't be using images in your resume 🌅

Why it's bad: I'm sure your headshot looks great and professional, but many applicant tracking system AIs will automatically filter these applications straight into the garbage.

What to do: Just delete your headshot. Period.

    2. You're missing critical keywords for the job 🧩

Why it's bad: Each job listing is looking for specific skills, qualifications, and credentials. If it doesn't see these specific words, you're toast.

What to do: Read the listing, note the skills and requirements they are looking for, and use those exact words in your resume. Don't lie, but if you have the skills, keyword stuff.

    3. You're getting too cute with your formatting ⛓️💥

Why it's bad: That's great that you like to be creative by structuring your resume like something no one has ever seen before, but you're probably just disqualifying yourself immediately.

What to do: Keep it simple: 2 or fewer columns, no strange structuring, colors or creativity. This isn't the place for it.

You'd be shocked, but those simple three things above immediately increase your odds.

What's new in the job market? 🌟

We've currently got 162 new jobs in the Beach Commute Atlas dropped since Monday.

    Lower Street

    Podcast Services · 11-100 · Est. 2016 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Lower Street helps brands create phenomenal podcasts to connect with their audience through meaningful storytelling and the best production. They're an all-in-one partner for podcast success from strategy, ideation/conceptualization, production, editing, and audience growth. They even work with some of the biggest brands in the world, such as PepsiCo, Booking.com, and BCG.

    🌶️ Hot take

Alright, this one is tricky because their careers page is practically blank - most of their prospective employee facing content is written in their job listings, which are particularly great. If you do spend some time on these job listings, you'll find quite a bit of personality and some really solid perks and benefits. Here's my favorite line:

Work from anywhere. Your house in the country, a coffee shop in the city, a yurt in the forest -- we don’t mind. As long as you have strong enough wifi.

    Here's some more highlights:

⏰ Flexible hours & async: "Outside of ideally having some working overlap with UK working hours, we have a globally distributed, asynchronous team."

📚 Learning budget: Courses, conference tickets, books -- we’re invested in you.

🏝️ Paid Retreats: "At least once per year, we get together in cool places to collaborate and celebrate in person."

🔌 Tech stipend: "Headphones, software, staplers, fax machine (probably not that last one) -- whatever you need to be set up for success."

    📊 BeachScore Live

Our initial review of Lower Street puts them at 77% on the Beach Commute Atlas, putting them in the top 35% of all fully-remote companies. The only things going against them are a small sample sizeof Glassdoor reviews, and not much info about their perks and bennies.

    Trafilea

    Ecommerce · 101-1,000 · Est. 2014 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Trafilea, a Tech E-commerce Group, runs direct-to-consumer brands in intimate apparel and beauty sectors. They focus on data-driven strategies and manage an online community promoting body positivity. Committed to delivering high-quality products and services for customer satisfaction and long-term growth.

    🌶️ Hot take

Here's the things I like: Clean careers page, decent Glassdoor reviews, and clearly labeled perks/benefits. Here's what I'd love to see more of: More prospect-focused language rather than Trafilea-values types of language, a clearer remote work policy, transparent salaries, and more PTO for employees. I'd love to hear from Trafilea to fill in some of the blanks so that I can add to their description.

    Lumenalta

    IT Services · 101-1,000 · Est. 2000 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Previously known as Clevertech, Luminalta is a group of highly-trained technologists who have supported the world’s leading brands across industries since 2000. They build custom software solutions with big business impact and have supported brands like Target, Dicom Transportation Group, and Peoplehood.

    🌶️ Hot take

Lumenalta splits their prospective employee-facing content into careers and culture pages, which can be effective when you have a lot to say. What I love most about their culture page is that they focus 100% on the prospective employee, rather than themselves. It's very tempting for companies to talk about themselves and their expectations, but it's a mistake. That comes from a place of insecurity. Lumenalta does a good job of selling me on why I should work there. Here's some aspects I like:

✅ Strong Peer Reviews: 4.1 Glassdoor score (342 reviews). That's a strong indicator with a lot of votes.

⏰ Flexible hours: "We're not about enforcing burdensome time sheets: We recognize that Lumens on our distributed teams across the globe do their best work at different times."

✈️ Sabbatical: "These can include a luxury gift, a month-long paid sabbatical or monetary recognition."

🔌 Tech stipend: "$1,000 to spend on whatever helps you feel your best, from gym gear to cooking classes and office decor. Whatever you’re into, we want you to be as fulfilled personally as you are professionally."

    🏝️ Remote work policy

Fully-remote, but missing a work-from-anywhere statement and details on travel while working. Company policy: "Remote from the start. Since the beginning, we’ve been an office-less company so you can be as ambitious in your personal life as you are in your professional life. Our culture emphasizes the freedom to create from anywhere, the relentless pursuit of mastery through continuous improvement, and the sense of connection that comes from being part of driving great outcomes.”

    Superside

    Design Services · 101-1,000 · Est. 2015 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Superside is the go-to AI-powered creative service. It's like having an extension of your in-house team, delivering lightning-fast, scalable, top-notch design and creative solutions. They've worked with over 450 globally renowned companies like Amazon, Meta, Salesforce, and Shopify since 2015. The secret sauce? They combine the top 1% of creatives worldwide with generative AI, giving them the power to offer on-demand creative services perfectly tailored to the needs of enterprise businesses and emerging industry leaders.

    🌶️ Hot take

If I see another company that has more than 90% of its career page content that talks about the company mission rather than prospective employees, I'm flat out dropping them from our database. Listen, do THIS:

Why does that work? Because they are prioritizing outcomes rather than worthless things like location, looking "busy", and keeping employees happy. Say it with me: Offices don't generate more revenue, it makes old schoolers happy because they have no idea how a business is meant to operate.

    Tech · 11-100 · Est. 2014 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Metabase is an open-source analytics tool that lets teams explore their data, build dashboards, and answer business questions without needing to know SQL.

    🌶️ Hot take

Their careers page is absolutely bare bones - but sometimes that's not a bad thing. It's also very typical of small companies. Here's what you need to know: 1. Their remote work policy is golden: "We offer flexibility (define your own schedule and work from wherever you want." Good, love that. They also have good Glassdoor reviews are strong, and look real. Look at this one:

This is clearly someone adapting to working fully remote, and obviously not fabricated.

Metabase could stand to earn some points in my book by adding some more texture to their careers page and clearly listing out the perks and bennies they offer employees.

    🏝️ Remote work policy

Remote work policy: "We offer flexibility (define your own schedule and work from wherever you want." Note that some jobs have locations attached - they likely want someone to work during the typical working hours of that region. Inquire! It's a small company, so there isn't a TON of detail on their careers page, but we love the vibe. Unfortunately they don't talk much about their perks and bennies.
