Yep, you read that right. We finally have a new name for fully remote company features. It's the Remote GOAT 🐐

Why? It rhymes, goats are awesome, and none of you sent me anything better 😎

In case it's not painfully obvious, I thoroughly review every company in our database and this newsletter because finding a remote job in this market is INSANE. Every day I'm hearing stories of fake job listings, scams, getting ghosted, and never hearing back on your applications.

There needs to be SOME sanity and transparency in this job market, and I'm trying to be the dude that brings it. This week I'm featuring a legit company named Yodo1 Games.

(And no, they didn't pay for this review. I don't take money from companies, I work for job searchers.)

    Let's go...

    🏖️ Overall BeachScore: 95%

Why’d I give Yodo1 a 95% BeachScore rating? They kill it in the four major categories I look for: Remote work policy, company culture, peer reviews, and perks and bennies.

Here's the things that matter for you before you apply 👇

    🏝️ Remote Policy: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

A rare 5/5 with policy statements that light up my heart like a Christmas tree. Read some of these quotes and get excited with me:

"Work from anywhere. We trust you to decide where and when to work - no matter where in the world"

Did you catch what they did there? One statement that expresses three critical things:

    1. Trust: This is f*cking huge, y'all. They trust you as adults and professionals, not a daycare where they watch over your shoulder.
    2. Flexible schedules: Are you kidding me? A company that realizes knowledge work doesn't work on a linear 9-5 schedule? Eat your heart out.
    3. Clear remote work policy: Oh yeah, and they don't care where you work. And why would they if you're getting your job done?

Then finally, the icing on the cake lives in the job listings themselves:

"WFA. Work from anywhere in the world, travel when and where you like, get paid in your currency of choice, and enjoy flexible hours and unlimited paid time off."

Any digital nomads out there like me? Well there ya go.

    🏢 Company Culture ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Trust comes up a lot here. Companies and managers who don't trust their employees have deep management problems. Seen this before?

Check out this video on how their CEO views high-trust vs. low-trust work environments:

Not a long video person? Neither am I, here's the Tl;Dr,

The CEO makes the case that trust is the operating system of a remote company. When they have high trust, things move faster and actually cost the company less. When it’s low, you get bogged down in red tape and surveillance culture. Ahem, employee monitoring software.

Lastly, they have a 4.4 on Glassdoor with 69 reviews. Now, don't put all your stock in GD! You need to take reviews with a grain of salt, because anyone can post anything on there. You SHOULD use it as an indicator, especially if you see thematic issues, or trends in the wrong direction.

    🎯 Perks and bennies ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

They don't have a lot of information posted here. I'm not saying the the list below is the extent of their perks and bennies, I'm saying this is what I was able to find.

Equipment reimbursement: "We provide an allowance to purchase your own device or equipment"

Unlimited PTO & flexible hours: "Enjoy flexible hours and unlimited paid time off."

Traveling while working: "Work from anywhere in the world, travel when and where you like."

Offsites: They post some pictures of offsite/retreats, but don't have any details about what that means. (They do look fun though

🤔 Questions to ask and things to watch out for

I'm a huge fan of transparent pay ranges for job titles, but Yodo1's policy is: "We pay based on qualifications, experience, and fit for the role."

I don't know if they offer healthcare, parental leave, learning/training stipends, retirement, or equity in the company. Ask.

Some roles require you to work directly in the Chinese market, meaning you'll likely need to work in specific timezone overlap. Some roles require Chinese language capabilities. Don't @me if you didn't read this.

    🔥 Current job openings

There are a few roles that require Chinese language proficiency - I'll mark them.

✅ If none of these roles currently match your skills, don't walk away! Bookmark them in the Atlas and set an alert so that you can apply when a role does go live that you qualify for. In the meantime, try to make connections in the company.

    The wise GOAT note 🐐

I'm gonna leave you with a quote that I love:

"We believe you know when and where you do your best work. We are fully remote by design and we WFA: Work From Anywhere. We don’t impose hours or limit time off. We are driven by performance and we experiment often. We care about impact, not titles."

    That's what I'm talking about.
