I'm gonna be honest with ya. Over the past week I've heard A LOT of job seeking horror stories. You can imagine that I hear these more than most people, but it's gotten way out of control.

I am sick of you job seekers getting treated like disposable objects. Employers are treating job seekers like we're all on a big dating app. But this is people's livelihoods we're talking about.

I certainly don't need to preach to YOU, you already know. But, I create this newsletter and every tool in that Atlas with this in mind.

Everything I do is to help level the playing field.

I hope you know that, because this is a good fight to fight. And there are good companies out there. /rant

Now, here's the Remote Weekly Top 3 that you missed over the past week 👇

    Remote Weekly

The Top 3 you missed this week

    1

You want jobs with scores that match your background 📊

If you were to wave a magic wand and fix one thing about job boards, what would you change? The overwhelming majority of you want personal job fit scores so that you don't waste your time on jobs that don't match your background.

    Article content
    Kinda surprised me

So...that's exactly what I did in the Atlas! Now each job has a personal fit score attached to it when you sort through jobs.

    Article content
    Boom. Speed your search up

And when you click on the personal fit button, it tells you why you are a good match for the role.

    Article content
    Boom, explanations.

Then, if you want quickly want to create a resume and cover letter for that job, you can have the whole thing done in a couple minutes using our techniques developed over the past five years to beat the AI bots and actually impress hiring managers.

    Article content
    Boom, resume-ed

I think it's one of the fastest ways to apply to the right jobs, that are with good companies, and with solid resumes that can get through AI filters.

    Give it a shot!

    2

Interview processes have fully lost their minds 🤯

I'm hearing stories about job seekers going through up to four months of interviews with eight to ten sets of panels. Are you kidding me?

    What. Are. We. Doing. Here?!

Look at this one I found the other day:

    Article content
    Un-freaking real

So, I've decided to create a series of job seeker stories. You know, staring in a camera and reading these horror stories.

If you share yours, I'll give you a week of the Atlas and all its tools, including the personal fit scoring, resume creator, salary coach, application tracker, job alerts, etc.

Do it, it'll be cathartic, and you'll be mini-famous.

    3

Companies' AI screening is so bad that they don't get any applicants 🤖

Would you be surprised to hear that AI screening is so pervasive that people make mistakes when they implement it for screening job applicants? Shocker, right?

    Article content

If ANYTHING, this should tell you that you need to be customizing your resume for EVERY job listing you apply for.

Now, let's get to the remote jobs of the week 👇

    Hand-reviewed

    SketchDeck

    New company alert!

    Design Services · 11-100 · Est. 2014 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

SketchDeck is shaping the future of creative agencies. By combining technology, partnerships, and a global talent community, SketchDeck provides marketers with on-demand access to top-notch creative work. From startups to big names like Dropbox, Rémy Cointreau, and Asana, clients of all sizes turn to SketchDeck for their creative needs.

    🌶️ Hot take

Like a lot of small companies, they have a bare-bones careers page that doesn't give me much to work with. Most of the details come straight out of job listings. Here's some of the perks and bennies I found in a recent listing:

    • Salary range: $100,000 - $125,000 per year plus $5,000 discretionary performance bonus
    • 401(k) with company match
    • Fully remote working environment (established pre-COVID and continuing forward)
    • Paid time off that grows with tenure
    • Annual company retreat
    • Computer hardware of your choice (up to $2,500)
    • $500 towards your office setup expenses
    • To work with a talented team of designers, team members, and engineers

It's not bad. The remote policy isn't 100% clear about whether you can work and travel, and there's not much to go on regarding their work environment and management. But, I do like that they had a remote policy pre-covid.

It's not crystal clear, but I suspect that they hire for specific citizenships, then let their employees work fully remote. It does NOT look like a hire-from-anywhere company. "Fully remote working environment (established pre-COVID and continuing forward)"

They combine the top 1% of creatives worldwide with generative AI, giving them the power to offer on-demand creative services perfectly tailored to the needs of enterprise businesses and emerging industry leaders.

    🌶️ Hot take

If I see another company that has more than 90% of its career page content that talks about love letters to themselves rather than prospective employees, I'm flat out dropping them from our database. Listen, do THIS:

    Article content

Why does that work? Because they are prioritizing outcomes rather than worthless things like location, looking "busy", and keeping employees happy. Say it with me: Offices don't generate more revenue, it makes old schoolers happy because they have no idea how a business is meant to operate.

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Halcyon is a company that builds tools to help teams manage and automate their internal processes.

    🌶️ Hot take

Remote policies can be VERY tricky to understand, and Halcyon is no exception. So their remote policy is as follows: "As a remote first, completely distributed team, we recognize great talent can exist anywhere. We invite you to apply to a job you’re interested in and we'll work a plan to meet your needs", however, there are many jobs with locations attached, which MAY or MAY NOT mean you are eligible to travel outside the country while working. Usually this is worked out in a case by case basis.

And there is also this, which I want you to interpret as you like.

    Article content

I think paid company retreats are pretty cool.

    🌶️ Hot take

Update, fall 2026: New website. New logo. New careers page that's...better.

There used to be 12 slides about hustle culture and everything they want out of you, someone who doesn't even work there yet. But they've tightened it up a bit:

    Article content

That's a better pitch in my books. They've also been through a whirlwind on Glassdoor over the past year. They seem to have settled at 3.7 for now.

Bounteous is a digital consulting company that helps businesses improve online experiences through strategy, design, analytics, and technology. They work with brands to build websites, digital products, and data-driven marketing solutions that drive growth and customer engagement.

    🌶️ Hot take

Oct 28, 2026: They are moving up in my book for sheer transparency. I'm seeing documented hiring processes, hiring locations (super rare),

Glassdoor reviews have still settled at 3.0 over the past couple months. As always, don't put all your stock in this, but don't ignore it either.

Also, I found this page that says the following about their remote work policy:

Work Anywhere, Built to Work Together. At Bounteous, we believe great work isn’t defined by location. You can work where you work best; whether that’s at home, in one of our offices, or a mix of both.

    And read this:

Cloud Eagle io supports Finance, Procurement, and IT teams by making the SaaS buying and renewal process easier. They help save on software expenses and ensure smooth operations for customer applications. Their goal is simple: by taking care of vendor management and cost optimization, they free up customer teams to focus on business growth.

    🌶️ Hot take

Here's what I said a couple months ago about CloudEagle:

"With dropping Glassdoor reviews I've got CloudEagle on my watchlist for the next couple of months. I never want to put all my stock into GD because employers can stuff reviews, and the bottom 10% of angry employees can bomb out a company's score. So I would love to hear from some current and past employees for a better feel of how things are going. Shoot me a note!"

🔔 Update October 28, 2026: Glassdoor reviews are stable at 3.0. If it dips below 3 I will drop them from this newsletter. Again, you don't want to put all your stock into Glassdoor, but it is an indicator we pay attention to.

Also, they eliminated their statement on being a "fast-paced" environment", which makes me VERY happy.
