How would you feel about employee surveillance equipment used to monitor your activities? Not great? Most people agree with you. Despite the disdain for Big Brother watching over your keystrokes (and presumably NOT your output), companies are doing it.

AT&T has ramped up their attendance tools, but had to scale them back because it annoyed too many employees. As a matter of fact, RTO and mandatory attendance is almost unanimously annoying employees.

But here's the catch...employees are ignoring their mandates.

This chart shows that companies have required a higher percentage of in-office days, and employees are ignoring them. Love it!

You know where you DON'T have to go into an office? With any of the 13 companies and 72 job listings below👇

    Constructor

    Software Dev · 101-1,000 · Est. 2015 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Constructor is the only AI product discovery platform designed explicitly for eCommerce retailers. Unlike other product search and discovery platforms, machine learning is in Constructor's DNA, bringing dynamic personalization to the customer experience.

    🌶️ Hot take

Constructor's careers page is 90% employee-first in its verbiage, with a few tiny blurbs at the bottom about the company's core values. They are PITCHING prospects. Bravo. And guess what? They are going to get the best talent that works the hardest and doesn't leave the company.

With a 94% employee retention rate and 4.7 stars on Glassdoor, I completely buy it. Note to companies out there still promoting themselves as company/vision-first, take note. This is how you build a strong team and generate revenue. Here's a few things I like:

✈️ Unlimited PTO: "We provide unlimited vacation time, unlimited sick time, and a minimum of 10 paid holidays every year. Also, take 3 mandatory weeks off per year!"

🏥 Healthcare: "Constructor pays for 99% of our United States team members’ medical, dental, and vision premiums."

🔌 Tech/workspace stipend: "Constructor supports your optimal work-from-home setup. This includes a yearly Remote Work Stipend + one-time New Hire $500 Setup Stipend, as well as a company-issued Apple laptop."

📚 Learning stipend: "On top of our Lifestyle Stipend, Constructor also provides a Yearly Learning & Development $500 Stipend."

    Software Dev · 101-1,000 · Est. 2009 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Alright, listen up! Muck Rack is your go-to platform for Public Relations Management (PRM). It's like your PR superhero, helping organizations connect with the media, tackle crisis risks, and show off how PR impacts business results.

    🌶️ Hot take

Muck Rack will always hold a top spot in our database. They are the model for what we look for in a solid company: Good benefits, geo-neutral pay, remote-forever company policy, and great employee reviews. And take a peek at the benefit package (for US employees - international employees are likely negotiated or contract):

I would PREFER a "no meeting any day" policy, but one step at a time, Jeff. We will get there and it will be glorious.

✔︎ Geo-neutral pay alert! "We believe in equitable pay regardless of where you live."

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

From idea to execution Outliant offers technical, end-to-end services. Their solution-driven team goes above and beyond to ensure you get the value you need to help you grow digitally.

    🌶️ Hot take

Outliant is another one of my highest recommended companies to work for. Here's a line from them that I really love:

Everyone deserves a workplace built on dignity and respect. At Outliant, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where every individual is valued, empowering our team to reach their full potential and achieve collective success.

I also love that they created YouTube Shorts with their employees discussing life at Outliant:

Note that many roles have hiring location eligibility. In other words, they are looking for employees who are citizens of specific areas. They are still "work from anywhere", but hiring eligibility is limited.

    Toggl

    Technology, Info & Internet · 101-1,000 · Est. 2007 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Toggl Track stands out as a top-tier online time-tracking tool, empowering users to effectively monitor project time allocation, analyze productivity levels, and enhance performance. With a seamless setup that takes less than a minute, users can synchronize Toggl Track across various platforms such as web trackers, desktop widgets, and mobile applications to streamline their time-tracking processes and optimize workflow efficiency.

    🌶️ Hot take

Read this line from Toggl and tell me how you feel about it:

“Freedom to choose when and how much you work—we only measure results”

I mean, c'mon. They have written the book on how to successfully manage employees in a way that makes them empowered and productive.

What can I say about Toggl that I haven't already said? I love everything about the way this company views leadership - from their RAFT model to the way they trust and empower their employees to work at their own pace. If I were ever to go back to working for an organization, this is the first door I would knock on. Read this:

And this theory on self-determination explains in one graphic what it takes me an essay to get across:

If you're serious about working for a good company, long-term, and fully remote, follow Toggl weekly for job openings. Here’s some things I like:

🎉 Total work freedom: “Freedom to choose when and how much you work—we only measure results”

🏝️ Paid sabbatical: “4-6 weeks paid sabbatical (depending on tenure)”

💻 Equipment budget: “Laptop budget up to 2,500€ and it renews every 3 years. €2,000 budget to set up your home office and an additional €300 every year after 3 years of tenure”

📚 Learning budget: “€4,000 per year contribution to use for training, workshops, and conferences”

💪 Health and wellness: “€2,400 per year contribution for any equipment or services to improve and/or maintain your physical and mental health.”

    Railsware

    Software Dev · 101-1,000 · Est. 2007 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Railsware is a product studio specializing in its own products and consultancy services. Their products, Mailtrap, Coupler.io, and Jira Smart Checklist, started as internal tools, gained community recognition, and evolved into successful commercial products with millions of users and future expansions.

    🌶️ Hot take

I'm a sucker for a public-facing employee handbook, and Railsware has an absolute doozy. And for the love of god can companies start telling me WHY I should be applying to work for you? Sell yourself, please! Here's some good reasons from Railsware:

🔌 Tech stipend: "When joining the team, we would ask you to use our secure hardware only. No worries, it’s going to be great new items, you can choose yourself."

💪 Health and wellness: "Good health is a key element of an active lifestyle. Railsware helps you maintain it with an extra budget you can spend on what is best for your health at the moment. Be it a meditation app subscription, gym membership, or a yoga mat – all included."

📚 Learning budget: "At Railsware, we don’t tell you how or what to learn. You get a dedicated sum that you can use to participate in conferences, visit workshops or take courses of your choice."

⏰ Flexible hours: "Railswarians live in more than 25 countries with different time zones. All of them are free to choose their most productive work time and place."

Oh and can I get a big amen for this? I was once named "Jeff do-I-have-to-join-this-meeting Baker" by a coworker...

Here's what's great about the above:

    Gitlab

    IT Services · 1,000+ · Est. 2014 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

GitLab is changing the game for Development, Security, and Ops teams with its all-in-one DevOps platform. It's all about revolutionizing collaboration, accelerating cycle time, cutting costs, speeding up time to market, and boosting developer efficiency.

    🌶️ Hot take

GitLab has put more effort into their employee marketing and policies than 99.99% of the companies we've researched over the years. Seriously, their handbook is absolutely massive.

Here's one of my favorite quotes about how they (accurately) think of the way productivity actually looks for a knowledge worker:

"A non-linear workday means that you can move between work and non-work time on an asynchronous schedule - without needing to account for PTO (paid-time-off). For example, a remote worker may start their day at 6:00 am and work till 9:00 am local time. To spend time with family, this person will not check work email or resume working again until 3:00 pm local time and continues to work until 8:00 pm local time. And tomorrow may be a totally different schedule depending on work/life circumstances."

And my favorite policy on the website speaks to their stance on working remotely:

"Working remotely enables a tremendous amount of freedom, enabling team members to work from anywhere so long as there is a reliable internet connection."

Work from anywhere, as long as they have an entity in your home country. It's a little unclear. They have a TON of published content about their views on remote work. Company statement: "Hiring and working from all over the world (instead of from a central location). Flexibility to live where you want as long as we have an entity in that location."

    Kit

Marketing, SaaS, Tech · 101-1,000 · Est. 2013 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Kit is an email marketing platform built for creators — newsletters, automations, and landing pages all in one place, so you can actually run your business instead of stitching together five different tools.

    🌶️ Hot take

I love, love, love Kit. We had been using the for years at Beach Commute, but didn't even realize that they were also an awesome WFA company. Have you EVER heard of this perk that PAYS you for taking time off?!

"Paid paid vacation: An after-tax bonus of $1,000 for taking five consecutive days of vacation where you’re fully unplugged from work"

Also, this is something everyone should consider when applying for a job: You do NOT need to meet 100% of a companies job requirements in a job listing.

"Research tells us that applicants who are female or non-binary, as well as applicants who are people of color, are less likely to apply for roles they do not feel 100% qualified for. If you think you meet more than 50% of our requirements but fewer than 100% of them, please apply. We’re imperfect communicators, so think of our job postings as the starting point for discussion rather than proof that you shouldn’t apply."

Here's some stuff I really like:

✅ Strong Peer Reviews: 5.0 Glassdoor score (23 reviews). While it is just an indicator, it's a pretty strong one.

⏰ Flexible hours: Offers flexible hours and schedules.

🏝️ Vacation bonus: Never heard of this one! "Paid vacation bonus. $1,000 bonus when taking 5+ consecutive days off with three-month advance planning."

✈️ Sabbatical: After five years with Kit, you get a four-week paid sabbatical.

💵 Transparent salaries: Still, something we shouldn't have to celebrate, but here it is!

🔌 Tech stipend: "$4,000 equipment budget upon joining and $3,000 every two years (US core team only)."

🏥 Medical: Comprehensive insurance. Health, dental, and vision.

    Bending Spoons

    🔎 What they do

Loom is a team of 7000+ Atlassians supporting an international group of 250,000+ customers. They build awesome tools like Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Trello to help teams across the world become more nimble, creative, and aligned.

    🌶️ Hot take

Note that Bending Spoons has an option between working in their Milan office and working remote. When you look at their job listings, make sure to note the jobs that have remote flexibility and which don't. It seems that they put some value in meeting in person, so I'm going to keep on top of this - if they make it a requirement, I'll drop them from the newsletter and Anywhere Atlas. They also appear to be very EU-citizen leaning, so keep this in mind. For now, their statements imply that remote work is ok.

Ambiguity aside, I do like their policy on flexible work schedules:

I also think it's fantastic that they call themselves "Spooners." Here's a few "Spooners" who turned into powerhouses for the company:

Take a look at their careers page, it's one of the most authentic-feeling, employee-centric pages I've seen in five years. Here's some things I like:

⏰ Flexible hours: "Flexible schedule and time off. Choose when to work, with the bare minimum of limitations."

🏝️ Unlimited PTO: "A fixed-term, intern, or permanent Spooner can take as much time off (including full vacation days) as they need to be at their most productive, healthy, and happy."

📚 Learning budget: "We back your investments in learning with company time and capital. See the dedicated policy."

🏥 Medical coverage: "A fixed-term, intern, or permanent Spooner receives high-end health insurance (or suitable reimbursement if based in an incompatible location)."

🧠 Mental health support: "Bending Spoons pays for unlimited professional mental health consultations for a fixed-term, intern, or permanent Spooner, and for their close family members."

🏝️ Paid Retreats: "We organize and pay for at least one company retreat every year, with optional participation. The duration and format may vary (we keep experimenting and optimizing), but the experience is consistently unforgettable. So far, we’ve visited incredible places such as Cuba, Japan, and Tanzania."

    🔎 What they do

Bending Spoons creates their own cutting-edge technologies and products. Founded in 2013 and based in Milan, Italy, they've served over half a billion people across the globe through our suite of digital technology products, including Evernote, Meetup, Remini, and Splice.

    📊 AtlasScore©

Bending Spoons gets an 82% on the Anywhere Atlas, putting them in the top 30% of all remote companies.

    🏝️ Remote work policies

Work from anywhere. Company policy: “Remote work. You’ve always got the freedom to decide where today’s office is."

    Loom

I LOVE Loom, both as a place to work and as a super helpful async tool. Anyone who reads my stuff knows that I cannot stand meetings. 90% of meetings probably don't need to happen, only benefit the loudest person of the room, and eat into productivity time. Tools like Loom make it possible for remote work and digital nomad lifestyles to exist.

They even have a super comprehensive, transparent perks package broken down by where you are a citizen. I love everything about it.

    📊 BeachScore

Loom gets an 81% on the Anywhere Atlas putting it in the top 20% of work-from-anywhere companies.

    🏝️ Remote work policy

Work from anywhere. Company statement: "Loommates are everywhere. We believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go. You can choose to work from home, a local office in San Francisco or New York, or from the road if you’re the travelling type."

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

SafetyWing is creating the first-ever global safety net for remote workers and companies, designed to support nomads everywhere. Their products are developed by a fully remote team of nomads spread across three continents.

    🌶️ Hot take

I've spoken with the CEO and founder of SafetyWing, and am familiar with their products, but they have published VERY little about what it's like to work as an employee for the company. I'd really like to see that careers page beefed up in a big way. However, if you do some digging into job posts you'll see a nice collection of perks/bennies:

    • Fully remote work environment – work from anywhere globally
    • Competitive compensation and equity compensation
    • A minimum of four weeks of vacation per year
    • A personal development budget
    • Premium health insurance that travels with you
    • Travel insurance any time you travel outside of your home country
    • New laptop, office allowance and more!
    • Multiple team gatherings per year in amazing locations—our previous meetups were in Mexico, Bali, Siglufjörður and Hoi An

I'd love to hear some more from SW so that I can better score the company!

    🌶️ Hot take

Unsurprisingly, their careers page reads a bit like a Wikipedia page! It's well-organized, incredibly clear and transparent. Remember - WFA does not mean the same thing as "hire from anywhere"! Read the blurb below.

    Instrumentl

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Instrumentl is a mission-driven, profitable SaaS startup (Y Combinator S16 alumni) that makes grant seeking easier for nonprofits, research institutions, and grant consultants by combining grant discovery, application drafting, management, and reporting into a single intuitive platform.

    🌶️ Hot take

I like a lot of what I see, but I want more of it. I want to see more about their remote work policy - it seems that most roles are fully-remote (some have preferred timezones), and they are fully-distributed, but they don't actually say the words "work-from-anywhere", which I desperately want to see. I suspect that if you can prove your trustworthiness, they would let you work from wherever, but that's just a hunch. Instrumentl, please shoot me a note. Here's some things I like:

📈 Solid Glassdoor reviews: They've got a 3.9 with 12 reviews, enough to qualify for our database and newsletter.

💰Transparent salaries: I hate that I have to applaud this, but few companies do it.

🏥 Medical coverage: "100% covered health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (50% for dependents)."

🔌 Tech stipend: "Company laptop + stipend to set up your home workstation."

    📊 BeachScore Live

Our initial review of Instrumentl puts them at 67% on the Anywhere Atlas, putting them in the top 40% of all fully-remote companies. Note that there isn't a ton of information about their remote policy, so that could move up their scores.

I am not a recruiter nor am not affiliated with any of the companies listed above. I currently cannot help you get hired with one of these specific companies for a role listed, or give you a recommendation. Note: "Hire from anywhere" is not the same as "Work from anywhere." Some companies are not able to hire employees from anywhere, but this does not mean they are not a "work from anywhere" company.
