It's another big week with. We tracked down 137 new fully-remote jobs listed since Sunday. But...and this is a huge but (πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘)...

You have to stop blindly spraying out applications. Target better jobs (that are legit, and not ghost jobs), that you are a good match for.

⚠️ If the skills, experience and qualifications on your resume aren't a match for the job listing, the AI gods will block you. And your application will never reach a human.

πŸ”— Use the Personal Matchmaker to find YOUR best match

    Here's mine for today...

Apply smarter to get better results.

    πŸ‘» Ghost in the machine

I think that was a movie name when I was kid. Any Millennials out there wanna help me with that one?

Unfortunately, the ghost in the machine is real, and it's taken the form of bs job listings. Here's some data I found from last year that shows ghost rates by job type. It's probably worse now:

Help explain what's going on with your job hunt? The number of ghost job listings also depends on where the company is posting from (oddly enough).

So how do you work around this madness?

    1. Apply at the source: the biggest culprit is reposted job listings on job boards. Every job board is a reposted listing which may be on nine other job boards. You want to apply at the original source listing published by the company. The Beach Commute Atlas ONLY includes source listings.
    2. Check the age of the listing: If it's ancient, it's probably not real. You can use this tool that sometimes is able to identify the listing date.
    3. Apply less, connect more: This is the underrated one. You're mass auto-applying to mass auto posting junk. Automation interacting with automation. It's a dead end cycle where bots talk to bots. You need to make connections at companies you want to work with. This is the true answer that everyone hates, because it's a lot of work.

But check it out... the people who are doing this ARE getting hired. But they are working smarter at it. It FEELS less productive to apply to just 5 jobs a week instead of 100. But the math actually maths better.

    🌢️ Hot take

Any company with a tagline "Work from anywhere on earth" automatically gets a special spot in my heart.

I also am a FIRM believer that "9-5 workdays" are insanely arbitrary hours with very little relevance to productivity. People are productive at different times, and definitely not for 9 hours in a row. Smartcat gets that:

    πŸ“Š BeachScore Live

Smartcat gets an 83% on the Beach Commute Atlas putting it in the top 15% of work-from-anywhere companies.

Fully-remote, but not much clarity on whether or not you can travel while you work. Company statement: "Work from anywhere on earth! The world is your oyster at Smartcat. Our HQ is in Boston, United States, but our workforce is global β€” from San Francisco to New York, Barcelona to Istanbul, and beyond! The choice is yours at Smartcat. Fully remote team. We are a global team of 200+ enthusiastic people spread across 30+ countries. We have been fully remote since 2020, with some locations populated with more Smartcaters than others, such as Boston, NYC, SF, the Bay Area, London, and Lisbon." πŸ”Ž What they do Live from the Atlas

Unified is like the digital marketing superhero - they go all out to score mega wins for brands. How? With their cool services pumped up by cutting-edge tools and brainy insights. They're a best-in-class team of digital experts leveraging purpose-built technology to deliver operational excellence and insights across paid social, programmatic, OTT, and digital audio.

    🌢️ Hot take

Love the careers page - very prospective employee focused. Also they have a clear "work from anywhere" employee mobility policy along with transparent salary ranges.

Update 8/19/2026: Glassdoor trends are concerning me a bit. We've dipped to 3.6, which is the bottom floor of my comfortable level. There are a few things raising my eyebrows. Now I don't want you to put all your stock into GD, as it's never fully representative and can be contextual, but you should keep an eye on trends πŸ‘

Trafilea, a Tech E-commerce Group, runs direct-to-consumer brands in intimate apparel and beauty sectors. They focus on data-driven strategies and manage an online community promoting body positivity. Committed to delivering high-quality products and services for customer satisfaction and long-term growth.

    🌢️ Hot take

Here's the things I like: Clean careers page, decent Glassdoor reviews, and clearly labeled perks/benefits. Here's what I'd love to see more of: More prospect-focused language rather than Trafilea-values types of language, a clearer remote work policy, transparent salaries, and more PTO for employees. I'd love to hear from Trafilea to fill in some of the blanks so that I can add to their description.

Sumsub is an identity verification, KYC/AML, transaction monitoring, and fraud-prevention platform that helps businesses verify users and companies while staying compliant.

    🌢️ Hot take

There is SO much to like about this company, starting with the very first line on their careers page: "Trust over control. We hire smart people and let them shine. No micromanaging, no gamesβ€”just trust, ownership, and great work."

This is EVERYTHING that you look for in a company. They are all about output over attendance, they don't micromanage, they have strong Glassdoor reviews, and a MOSTLY clear remote work policy.

    πŸ“Š BeachScore Live

Sumsub gets a solid 81% on the Beach Commute Atlas. With a slightly clearer remote work policy we would be golden.

    Network Security Β· 11-100 Β· Est. 2012 Β· Company page on the Atlas β†—

πŸ”Ž What they do Live from the Atlas

Trail of Bits has helped secure some of the world’s most targeted organizations and products. They combine high-end security research with a real-world attacker mentality to reduce risk and fortify code.

    🌢️ Hot take

TOB's remote work policy is a LITTLE iffy...their job listings seem to be very clear, but the careers page says the following:

While our corporate office is in New York City, many of our positions offer flexible remote work arrangements and Trail of Bits has team members across multiple time zones. Specific requirements will be discussed during the interview process.

My take is that some roles come with city/region requirements attached. Avoid those. Their perks and bennies package looks pretty solid:

Update August 19, 2026: Lastly, they have a 4.7 on Glassdoor with nine employee reviews. I'd love more info on their remote work policy, but for now that's enough.

    🌢️ Hot take

I like their clear views on the value of remote work, check out this quote from their careers page:

"Our teams are not just global, we're also 100% remote and have team members in almost every time zone and continent (except Antarctica). By joining Alpaca you'll be part of a multicultural, international organization."

Update August 19th, 2026: We've dropped down to 3.6 with a recent flurry of mixed reviews. I'm wary, but not turned off.

I'm a LITTLE wary of this statement that gives me a bit of a "hustle culture" vibe:

"We're keen on that last 10% of effort and believe that the details do matter. If this sounds like you, then you're in the right place."

I get it from a company perspective...don't love it from a prospect marketing perspective.
