We helped another person get a fully-remote job that lets them work from anywhere...check out what she said:

🔎 Her job search (sound familiar?!)

"I signed up to the program because I was having difficulty landing a remote role. I knew I my experience was a dated, as well as having gaps in using some tools. I had used a career coach previously for a 6 week course, I learnt a lot from that but I still found I wasn’t getting anywhere with landing a role."

🔥 Joining the Remote Job Fast Track program:

"Although initially I had reservations about being able to pay for the program, I took the leap anyway because if I don’t invest in myself, then who will!"

    💪🏽 Landing the remote job:

"I managed to land a remote role with no experience in the industry. The position which I landed gives you 100% training. I’m currently onboarding and finishing with my training. I’m looking forward to starting!"

💬 It's the end of the year (and we're still scaling), so we only have room for a few applicants. Comment "remote job" below if you are interested in joining.

The dark side of digital nomad life nobody talks about

I swear, everything you see on Instagram is this insanely curated life of travel (that doesn't exist).

Sure, maybe SOME aspects of it do, but real life is nuanced.

    You get sick while traveling.

    You run into scams.

You can't get internet to do your job.

They are some of the most rewarding experiences I've EVER had, and absolutely worth it...

But people should know that it's not always a highlight reel.

I had a blast with this episode!

And now, to the hot jobs of the week!

    Constructor

    Software Dev · 101-1,000 · Est. 2015 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Constructor is the only AI product discovery platform designed explicitly for eCommerce retailers. Unlike other product search and discovery platforms, machine learning is in Constructor's DNA, bringing dynamic personalization to the customer experience.

    🌶️ Hot take

Constructor's careers page is 90% employee-first in its verbiage, with a few tiny blurbs at the bottom about the company's core values. They are PITCHING prospects. Bravo. And guess what? They are going to get the best talent that works the hardest and doesn't leave the company.

With a 94% employee retention rate and 4.7 stars on Glassdoor, I completely buy it. Note to companies out there still promoting themselves as company/vision-first, take note. This is how you build a strong team and generate revenue. Here's a few things I like:

✈️ Unlimited PTO: "We provide unlimited vacation time, unlimited sick time, and a minimum of 10 paid holidays every year. Also, take 3 mandatory weeks off per year!"

🏥 Healthcare: "Constructor pays for 99% of our United States team members’ medical, dental, and vision premiums."

🔌 Tech/workspace stipend: "Constructor supports your optimal work-from-home setup. This includes a yearly Remote Work Stipend + one-time New Hire $500 Setup Stipend, as well as a company-issued Apple laptop."

📚 Learning stipend: "On top of our Lifestyle Stipend, Constructor also provides a Yearly Learning & Development $500 Stipend."

    Railsware

    Software Dev · 101-1,000 · Est. 2007 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Railsware is a product studio specializing in its own products and consultancy services. Their products, Mailtrap, Coupler.io, and Jira Smart Checklist, started as internal tools, gained community recognition, and evolved into successful commercial products with millions of users and future expansions.

    🌶️ Hot take

I'm a sucker for a public-facing employee handbook, and Railsware has an absolute doozy. And for the love of god can companies start telling me WHY I should be applying to work for you? Sell yourself, please! Here's some good reasons from Railsware:

🔌 Tech stipend: "When joining the team, we would ask you to use our secure hardware only. No worries, it’s going to be great new items, you can choose yourself."

💪 Health and wellness: "Good health is a key element of an active lifestyle. Railsware helps you maintain it with an extra budget you can spend on what is best for your health at the moment. Be it a meditation app subscription, gym membership, or a yoga mat – all included."

📚 Learning budget: "At Railsware, we don’t tell you how or what to learn. You get a dedicated sum that you can use to participate in conferences, visit workshops or take courses of your choice."

⏰ Flexible hours: "Railswarians live in more than 25 countries with different time zones. All of them are free to choose their most productive work time and place."

Oh and can I get a big amen for this? I was once named "Jeff do-I-have-to-join-this-meeting Baker" by a coworker...

Mindbloom offers guided at-home ketamine therapy to transform mental health. Together with medical leaders in the field, they have created a best-in-class treatment program driving transformational outcomes for clients.

    🌶️ Hot take

As a huge advocate for mental health treatment and alternative medicine, I LOVE what Mindbloom is doing and the idea of working for such an important cause. And unsurprisingly, Mindbloom has a very enlightened view on how to manage employees:

    Gitlab

    IT Services · 1,000+ · Est. 2014 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

GitLab is changing the game for Development, Security, and Ops teams with its all-in-one DevOps platform. It's all about revolutionizing collaboration, accelerating cycle time, cutting costs, speeding up time to market, and boosting developer efficiency.

    🌶️ Hot take

GitLab has put more effort into their employee marketing and policies than 99.99% of the companies we've researched over the years. Seriously, their handbook is absolutely massive.

Here's one of my favorite quotes about how they (accurately) think of the way productivity actually looks for a knowledge worker:

"A non-linear workday means that you can move between work and non-work time on an asynchronous schedule - without needing to account for PTO (paid-time-off). For example, a remote worker may start their day at 6:00 am and work till 9:00 am local time. To spend time with family, this person will not check work email or resume working again until 3:00 pm local time and continues to work until 8:00 pm local time. And tomorrow may be a totally different schedule depending on work/life circumstances."

And my favorite policy on the website speaks to their stance on working remotely:

"Working remotely enables a tremendous amount of freedom, enabling team members to work from anywhere so long as there is a reliable internet connection."

Work from anywhere, as long as they have an entity in your home country. It's a little unclear. They have a TON of published content about their views on remote work. They connect companies all over with a network of professional translators. 🌶️ Hot take

Any company with a tagline "Work from anywhere on earth" automatically gets a special spot in my heart.

I also am a FIRM believer that "9-5 workdays" are insanely arbitrary hours with very little relevance to productivity. People are productive at different times, and definitely not for 9 hours in a row. Smartcat gets that:

    Customer.io

    Software Dev · 500+ · Est. 2012 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Customer.io brings you a nifty marketing automation tool that sends personalized messages matching user behavior. Their real-time data wizardry guarantees on-point and timely communication, jazzing up user experiences on both web and mobile platforms.

    🌶️ Hot take

Note that Customer.io's Glassdoor score has increased from 3.3 to 3.6 over the past year. Don't put all your stock in GD reviews, but use them as an indicator. They have a very solid careers page, clear perks package, and even a map...I'm such a sucker for a map.

What I want MORE of is a better explanation of their remote work policy, and hiring location policies. Put it on my wishlist, please! Help me get you out there to our readers! I particularly like their async work culture that tries to keep meetings to a minimum (a HUGE plus from me).

I also really like their extensive perk and benefit package. Make sure to take a look at their careers page, it's extensive!

Here’s some of the things I like:

💻 Asynchronous work style: “We prioritize thoughtful communication and reducing unnecessary communication to focus on meaningful work.”

🏥 Health and wellness: “We pay 100% medical, dental, vision, mental health, and supplemental insurance premiums for you AND your family.”

🏝️ Paid sabbatical: “After 5 years, treat yourself to a month of paid sabbatical”

💻 Equipment budget: “A monthly remote work stipend of $250 USD to cover the costs of internet, cell phone plans, and other remote work costs.”

✈️ Unlimited PTO: “We encourage at least 20 vacation days (in addition to holidays and sick days) so that you can unwind, unplug, and recharge”

📚 Learning & development allowance: “Professional development budget up to $2,000 USD per year”

    Lumos

    IT Services · 101-1,000 · Est. 2020 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Lumos excels in making IT operations smoother. IT and Security teams worldwide use Lumos to decrease technology spending, optimize access management processes, and strengthen their security posture. And the big guys love them - companies like GitHub, MongoDB, and Major League Baseball use Lumos to manage software, access, and vendors in one place.

    🌶️ Hot take

I like A LOT about what I see from Lumos, including their 4.7 Glassdoor rating, full medical benefits, wellness stipends, and $1k annual learning and development stipends.

The only thing (in my mind) that keeps Lumos from moving into the top tier of work-from-anywhere companies is their +/- 4 hour PST timezone restriction. That covers a lot of territory, but would limit digital nomads to only travel in the Americas. It's not clear whether or not you have to be physically located within the +/- 4 hour window, or if they will let you work those hours from anywhere.

Still, that amounts to 8 timezones. Here's some highlights:

🏋🏾 Health and wellness: $100 bucks a month for health and wellness spend.

👶🏾 Parental leave: Up to 4 months of it.

📚 Learning budget: $1,000 bucks a year on learning and development spend.

🌴 Unlimited PTO: But make sure you actually use it!

At Impact Brands the thrill and excitement of making a positive IMPACT on BILLIONS of people is their fuel. They prioritize premium quality natural and organic health products, superior service, and creative marketing. Every day they explore revolutionary mediums to help improve the lives of people all over the world.

    🌶️ Hot take

Their careers page really lacks detail. As a matter of fact, the majority of my findings come directly from their job listings. But, they have a solid remote work policy, decent Glassdoor reviews, and some solid perks.

🚨 Important note: It APPEARS that they are targeting Eastern European employees based on the salary ranges offered. If I find in the future that they only target EE employees, I will likely opt to not include them.

🏝️ Remote work: "Whether it's your home office, a cozy cafe, or a scenic spot across the globe, you have the autonomy to choose your workspace."

    🌶️ Hot take

These folks have very very little for me to work with from their sparse careers page, BUT they have a work-from-anywhere remote work policy and a 4.7 Glassdoor score. Also, they have a lot of personality and detail in their job listings, which they REALLY should be including on their careers page. Like, seriously. I love some of the buried statements in these listings, like:

"Your success is measured by results, not hours."

    And some awesome perks like:

"Enjoy 24 days of paid vacation plus 10 days of “Celebration Leave” for holidays that matter to you."

C'mon folks, there is SO much good stuff in these listings - get it formatted on your careers page! I love it. I will say that I LOVE their employee video, which you should definitely watch. Most importantly, they look fun and genuine. Here's some things I like:

🏝️ Paid Retreats: "✈️ Team retreats to meet your team IRL in places like Portugal, Croatia & Greece and beyond"

🔌 Tech stipend: "🧑💻 Tech & Co-Working Budget to have access to the tools and spaces that fuel your focus"

    Community Boost

    Marketing · 11-100 · Est. 2012 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Community Boost is the premiere digital marketing agency for social impact and nonprofit organizations. For over a decade, they have successfully navigated the ever-changing digital landscape for some of the world’s most important organizations.

    🌶️ Hot take

I don't get to write about Community Boost often because they aren't often hiring, however, there are a lot of good things to consider when they ARE actively hiring. I would like to see more about their remote work policy, though. Their statement (posted below), is a little too vague for my liking.

🔎 Strong Glassdoor: CB has a Glassdoor rating of 4.2, putting them in the upper 25% of remote companies.

🏝️ Unlimited PTO: "We want to be uncomfortable with how much freedom our team has, so we offer unlimited paid time off so our team doesn’t have to choose between mental health days, long weekends or vacations."

🏥 Healthcare: "Health is wealth, which is why we offer medical, dental, vision and life insurance – all available at the first of next month after your start date."

🔌 Tech Stipend: "Macbooks, $100/mo Work-from-home stipend and access to over 3,000 co-working spaces."

Fully-remote, unclear about WFA. Company statement: "While we have an Office in San Diego, we are a remote-first culture. All employees receive Macbooks, $100/mo Work-from-home stipend and access to over 3,000 co-working spaces."

    iubenda

    IT Services · 101-1,000 · Est. 2011 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

iubenda provides a comprehensive solution for data law compliance, trusted by over 80,000 clients worldwide. They take a holistic approach to compliance, keeping a close eye on key legislations such as GDPR, LGPD, CCPA, and ePrivacy.

    🌶️ Hot take

iubenda has offices, but allows their employees to work fully remote. I would LOVE to see more information about their policy on working from anywhere (as a digital nomad would). They have some solid publicly published benefits and perks:

Their Glassdoor score is currently at 4.3, which is not the end-all be-all, but is an indicator we use. I do like that they have some exciting company retreats, which has happened in the Dolomites, Sicily, and Venice.

    🏝️ Remote work policy

Fully remote, but lacks clarity around traveling while working. Company statement: "You can work 100% remotely or if you prefer, from one of our beautiful offices in Italy (Bologna and Milan), and Germany (Hamburg). We are used and fully structured to onboard people who prefer to work full-time remotely."

    Remote

    HR Services · 1,000+ · Est. 2019 · Company page on the Atlas ↗

🔎 What they do Live from the Atlas

Remote is on a mission to level the playing field when it comes to talent and opportunity. They're all about giving everyone a fair shot by helping employers discover top talent and individuals achieve financial and personal freedom. As a global HR platform, Remote simplifies the process of hiring, managing, and paying your team. Their wide range of solutions, from HRIS to international employment services, equips businesses to thrive in the fast-paced global marketplace.

    🌶️ Hot take

Remote gets a RARE 5/5 on our remote emphasis scale. Everything about their careers page is THE model for how fully-remote companies should market themselves to prospects. The FIRST thing they talk about (in the freaking header) is their work-from-anywhere policy. Then they launch right into their asynchronous work style (and further reinforcement of their remote policy).

With a company size of 1,000+, HOW are they still able to maintain this employee-first mentality? No companies are able to scale AND maintain this line.

Oh, and you also know I'm a huge fan of a transparent handbook, so here's theirs.

Updated note for Nov 19: Glassdoor reviews have dropped from 4.0 to 3.4 (down from 3.5 a few months ago). Again, don't put all your stock in this, but use it as an indicator. Also note that I've heard from job applicants that your application may or may not be prioritized or compensated depending on your geographical location - but they do a good job of explaining this in each individual job listing. Read them carefully.
